Consulting services for Helwan wastewater treatment plant project.

The project aims to improve wastewater treatment services in one of Cairo’s major treatment plants and, more broadly, to improve the overall sanitation service level in the southern part of the city, particularly in the Helwan area. The Helwan Wastewater Treatment Project will contribute to more effective and efficient climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts. Additionally, it will support the establishment of a sustainable and well-managed wastewater system in South Cairo, with a specific focus on the Helwan region.

The scope of work includes

  • Prepare the design, tender documents, rehabilitation and upgrading the new WWTP with a capacity of 250,000 m3/day and enhance the existing WWTP effluent quality by adding tertiary treatment units with the same capacity of 550,000 m3/day.
  • Prepare design for the new sludge treatment facilities for the whole WWTP capacity including an anaerobic digestion stage for power production and OPEX reduction.
  • Provide technical assistance to overall project management and reporting.
  • Carry out the upgrading of the Helwan sewerage system.
  • Installation of 2 New pumping stations to boost the sewerage network towards the Helwan WWTP.
  • Carry out the construction supervision services.
  • Conduct operation and maintenance (O&M) during testing period, commissioning of the plant and taking over and defect liability period (DPL).
