Provision of Services Related to the Development of the Bio-Based Economy Strategy Action Plan

In 2021, the Egyptian Ministry of Environment has initiated the development of the Bio-based Economy Strategy (hereinafter referred to as the Strategy)3 which aims at maximizing the return on Egypt’s biological resources for the sustainable production of energy, materials and chemicals. At the request of the Ministry of Environment, the project will support the Ministry in the finalization and implementation of the Strategy by:

  1. Developing a high-level strategy document that sets the strategic objectives for a just transition to a circular bio-based economy;
  2. Supporting MoE in the establishment of a Whole-of-Government Steering Committee that will provide advice on the Strategy implementation;
  3. Developing an action plan for the implementation of the Strategy’s first pilot phase through demonstration projects and regulatory interventions;
  4. Supporting the implementation of the pilot phase.

The above will be part of the project’s contribution to the upcoming 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to be hosted by Egypt in November 2022.
