The Sidi Salem waste management recycling plant

Her Excellency, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, accompanied by His Excellency, Gamal Nour Eldeen, Governor of Kafr Elshiekh, inaugurated the Sidi Salem waste management recycling plant, under the framework of the ‘National Solid Waste Management Programme’ (NSWMP). The Programme aims at developing and enhancing the governorate’s waste management infrastructure as well as prepping the governorate’s solid waste management unit (SWMU) for private investments.

Chemonics Egypt participated in implementing the ‘National Solid Waste Management Programme’ (NSWMP) in Kafr Elshiekh, providing  the Governorate with assistance in in developing master plans and decentralized investment planning, together with support in establishing functioning SWMUs. Chemonics Egypt has also provided technical consultancy services that support the implementation of the NSWMP’s vision for the Governorate’s infrastructure, covering the complete spectrum of technical services. The benefiting infrastructure included collection and transport systems, material sorting / material recovery facilities, composting plants, and mechanical-biological treatment (MBT) facilities, transfer stations, sanitary landfills, and rehabilitation of dump sites.

The Sidi Salem plant is a Composting, and Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) plant with an operating capacity of 250 ton/day, serving Sidi Salem and El-riyadh cities.
